All you have to do is look at the trees around New England to know that deadlines for early college applications are just around the corner. Most colleges with ED/EA plans require applications to be submitted by November 1. November 15 is also a common deadline. However, keep in mind that some special programs that require supplemental applications may have even earlier deadlines. For example, Northwestern’s Beinan School of Music requires a supplemental application with a five-page essay and a one-page essay to be submitted on or before October 15. Furthermore, aspiring music majors often must submit videos of performances and/or engage in auditions to prove their musical talent and ability.
The point here is that you must be aware of all deadlines, and you must be ready to submit your applications and supplements as well as performance videos, resumes, portfolios, and auditions in the coming days and weeks. Typically, colleges will allow an additional week or so for your recommendations and transcripts to come through, while your obligation to submit your application materials on time is rarely extended.
