Frequently Asked Questions About the ACT Test (FAQs)

What is the best way to prepare for the ACT?

NC Global offers a unique, fully customized ACT tutoring program that begins with a consultation and detailed analysis of each student’s strengths, weaknesses, learning style, starting point, and goals. Our skilled team creates individualized plans that enable students to excel at the ACT test.

How long is the ACT test?

It takes 3 hours and 5 minutes to complete all four multiple-choice sections on the ACT test, which includes one 10-minute break. If you elect to take the optional Writing Test (essay), you will have an extra 5-minute break, and the entire test will take 3 hours and 50 minutes.

The ACT test sections are English, Math, Reading, Science, and the optional Writing Test, and you must complete them in this order. Once time has been called, you cannot return to work on a previous section. You will also not be permitted to skip ahead to other sections.

Can You Take the ACT More Than Once?

Students can take the ACT up to 12 times. That doesn’t mean they should, but there are good reasons to take the test more than once.

Each section of the ACT is given a score between 1 and 36. These are then averaged together to produce a composite score, which also ranges between 1 and 36.

Most students actually improve their scores when they retake the ACT, so taking it multiple times can be a big advantage. If you were sick, tired, or stressed the first time, or just didn’t do as well as you hoped, you can take the test again and try for a higher score. For most students, the magic number is three times to take the test.

Taking the ACT multiple times can have a major positive impact on your college admission candidacy, and not doing so can put you at a competitive disadvantage versus those who do.

NC Global Education’s ACT tutoring approach is focused on each student’s individual needs, with personalized pace and content. If you are ready to invest in tutoring and test prep in Cambridge, MA, we encourage you to get in touch with us at 800-469-1028 to learn more about our capabilities.
